El alabado director holandés de RoboCop (1987) y Starship Troopers (1997) puede volver a Hollywood en un proyecto junto a su antiguo colaborador, el escritor Edward Neumeier.
Los fans de RoboCop y Starship Troopers, y aquellos que comparten el fanatismo por las dos franquicias cinematográficas (podemos llamarlos “RoboTroopers”) tienen razones para esperar sorpresas cuando la cuarentena en la que están la mayoría de los proyectos de Hollywood empiece a disiparse. Y es que Paul Verhoeven acaba de declarar para el diario digital Holandés AD que es posible su regreso a Hollywood para trabajar en un nuevo proyecto con su amigo Edward Neumeier, con quien ya trabajó en RoboCop y Starship Troopers.
El señor Verhoeven ha tenido algunos problemas de salud que han retrasado el desarrollo de uno de los proyectos en los que ha estado trabajando en su Holanda natal. Se trata del film The secret of a good marriage, del cual no se ha dado mucha información en los medios hasta la fecha. Este proyecto cuenta con la participación del guionista Robert Alberdingk Thijm.
Verhoeven dice que él y Neumeier están en conversaciones sobre un proyecto y que, si tal idea “despega”, sería su posible regreso a Hollywood.
RoboCop Returns: una secuela “como Verhoeven la hubiera hecho”
Edward Neumeier, por su parte, comentaba al respecto de RoboCop Returns, la posible secuela de RoboCop que ha estado en aparente desarrollo desde 2017 por MGM, que el había informado a Verhoeven del deseo del director Neill Blomkamp de crear una secuela que fuera exactamente “como Verhoeven la hubiera hecho”.
Al respecto, Verhoeven, respondió a Edward, que: “ni siquiera Verhoeven puede hacer lo que Verhoeven hizo en ese entonces”. Haciendo referencia a que él ya no tiene todo el equipo de trabajo o las circunstancias “mágicas” que rodearon a la primera RoboCop, y gracias a las cuales se convirtió en todo un fenómeno mundial.
Neumeier me comentó en una ocasión algo que ha repetido en varias entrevistas: “los planetas se alinearon” para que RoboCop sucediera.
El caso es que, finalmente, el director designado por MGM para RoboCop Returns, Neill Blomkamp, abandonó el proyecto y nunca vamos a saber si realmente pudo haber hecho una secuela “exactamente como Verhoeven la hubiera hecho”.
¿RoboCop, Starship Troopers o algo totalmente nuevo?
Lo que es admirable es que el director de 81 años esté dispuesto a seguir compartiendo su genialidad con nosotros. Esperamos que las condiciones de Hollywood mejoren pronto y que tanto el señor Verhoeven como Edward Neumeier estén en las mejores condiciones de salud para producir su nuevo proyecto que, aunque no sabemos a ciencia cierta si será un nuevo ‘hijo’ para Starship Troopers (Casper Van Dien, había anunciado el año pasado para HN Entertainment la posibilidad de series de Televisión con el cast original del primer film) o si la franquicia de RoboCop será la ganadora del duo Verhoeven-Neumeier. Quizá ninguna de estas posibilidades se den y desarrollen algo completamente nuevo (estilo Directiva 4 ¡Información clasificada!).
Lo que si podemos esperar es genialidad combinada y entretenimiento para los fans de las dos franquicias y el público en general, cualquiera que sea la idea en la que los dos creativos estén trabajando en este momento. Suerte.
PAUL VERHOEVEN MAY RE-SHOOT IN HOLLYWOOD
The praised Dutch director of RoboCop (1987) and Starship Troopers (1997) may return to Hollywood on a project alongside his former collaborator, writer Edward Neumeier.
The RoboCop and Starship Troopers fans and those who share fanaticism for the two film franchises (We may call them “RoboTroopers”) have a good reason to expect surprises when the quarantine most Hollywood projects are at the moment, begins to dissipate. Happens that, Mr. Paul Verhoeven has recently declared for the Dutch digital newspaper AD that his return to Hollywood might be possible to perhaps work on a new project amidst his friend Edward Neumeier, with whom he has already worked in RoboCop and Starship Troopers.
Lamentably, Mr. Verhoeven has endured some health problems that have delayed the development of one of the projects he has been working on in his native Holland:

screenwriter Robert Alberdingk Thijm since 2018, however, not much information has been given to the media, in regards to the production.
And about Hollywood, Verhoeven comments that he and Neumeier are in talks about a project and that if such an idea «takes off,» it would be his possible comeback.
RoboCop Returns A Sequel «As Verhoeven Would Have Made It»
Edward Neumeier, for his part, commented in regards of RoboCop Returns, the possible sequel to RoboCop that has been in apparent development since 2017 by MGM, that he had informed Verhoeven of director Neill Blomkamp’s desire to create a sequel that was exactly:
«As Verhoeven would have done it «
In this respect, Verhoeven funnily replied to Edward, that:
«Not even Verhoeven can do what Verhoeven did back then.»
Referring to the fact that he no longer has all the work equipment, cast, crew the “Magical” circumstances that surrounded the first RoboCop to direct a new one, magical circumstances that led the film to be become a worldwide phenomenon.
Neumeier had said to me once, something that he has repeated in several interviews, which was that «The planets aligned» for RoboCop to happen.
The thing is, finally, MGM’s designated director for RoboCop Returns, Neill Blomkamp, dropped out of the project, and we’ll never know if he really could have made a sequel:
«Exactly as Verhoeven would have done it.»
RoboCop , Starship Troopers or something entirely new?
What we find admirable is that the 81-year-old director is willing to continue sharing his genius with us. We hope that Hollywood conditions improve overall soon and that both Mr. Verhoeven and Edward Neumeier are in the best health conditions to produce their new project which, although we do not know for sure if it will be a new ‘child’ for Starship Troopers (Casper Van Dien, had announced last year for HN Entertainment the possibility of TV series with the original cast of the first film) or if the RoboCop franchise will be the winner of the Verhoeven-Neumeier duo.
Perhaps none of these possibilities will happen and the team is up to develop something completely new. (Directive 4 classified style!)
However, what we can expect for sure, is combined genius and great entertainment for the fans of both franchises and the general audience, whatever the idea that the two creative workers are developing at the moment.

Es un buen artículo Eva. Sorprendido de que Paul y Ed algún día se reúnan. La última vez que hicieron una película juntos fue en 1997. Y, sinceramente, Staship Troopers fue una maravilla. Y personalmente, no creo que ninguna película fuera exitosa sin la colaboración de estas dos pistolas.
