RoboCop Returns, regresando a los orígenes

La reciente noticia de que Bron Creative acaba de firmar un contrato de financiación con MGM Studios por la cantidad aproximada de 100 millones de dólares da esperanza a los fans de RoboCop, de que RoboCop Returns, realmente sea producida. Peter Weller ha demostrado en más de una ocasión, que si la oferta es lo suficientemente atractiva para él, RoboCop estará de vuelta. El señor Weller, recientemente firmó un contrato con la estadounidense KFC, prestando su voz a la nueva mascota de la marca de pollo frito que, en este caso, es el mismo RoboCop convertido en el coronel Sanders.

Nancy Allen, por su parte, nos comenta que a ella no se le ha tomado en cuenta para la producción. Sin embargo, y a pesar de sus obligaciones como directora ejecutiva de WeSpark, la actriz sigue abierta a posibilidades y negociaciones.

Desafortunadamente, Neill Blomkamp no menciona a Nancy Allen, a Edward Neumeier o a Michael Miner en ninguna de sus declaraciones públicas sobre RoboCop Returns.

El director asegura que su película será de clasificación R y muy al estilo de Paul Verhoeven. Lo último que HN Entertainment nos informa acerca de Ed Neumeier, es la posibilidad de una propuesta para series de Televisión para la franquicia de Starship Troopers, la cual contrataría a los actores originales de la saga. El actor Casper Van Dien, quien ha trabajado activamente en la serie de films más allá de su rol como actor, estaría de vuelta.

Los fans de RoboCop consideran que no hay mejor director que el mismo Paul Verhoeven, para que esté a cargo de la que pudiera ser la verdadera secuela del RoboCop original.

Regresar a los orígenes y al reparto original de las décadas de los 80’s y 90’s parece ser la tendencia en Hollywood en estos días. El mejor ejemplo es Terminator Dark Fate, que promete su estreno en Octubre de este año y reúne al viejo equipo que hiciera brillar la franquicia en los años 80’s y 90’s, la trilogía mágica de James Cameron, Linda Hamilton y Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Con Star Wars lo ha intentado también, incluyendo a actores como la fallecida Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford y Mark Hamill en las nuevas secuelas de la interminable serie de películas. Blade Runner 2049, también ha traído de vuelta a Harrison Ford como Deckard, una vez más, para regocijo de los fans.

Hacerse cargo del renombre de marcas como lo es RoboCop y Terminator, al parecer, es un peso bastante grande para las nuevas generaciones de directores y escritores de Hollywood, y tal vez esa sea la razón por la cual, estamos rescatando a los actores, directores y escritores originales, después del fracaso de tantas secuelas y remakes.

Llenar las expectativas de los fans, será el verdadero reto para los estudios MGM y todo el equipo creativo involucrado en tan esperada película.

Según fuentes cercanas a MGM, se estima que RoboCop Returns comience su producción formal en 2020.

ROBOCOP RETURNS: BACK TO THE ORIGINS
